Elegant, refined and timeless fashion accessory, made for both men and women, the Panama hat is a great gift idea for yourself or a loved one.
It's so good to wear your Panama hat when the sun shines in early spring, at the height of summer. And it's also the perfect accessory for your vacation and in the tropical heat of our favorite islands!

For Tawa B'Art the Panama hat is also a nod to the local ancestral tradition of St Barths where women wove another palm tree, the latanier leaves, with which they made hats, baskets and other basketry accessories.

Tawa B'Art's Panama Hat is made in the highest tradition. We work
with craftsmen who apply an ancestral know-how handed down from generation to generation, originating from Montecristi, Ecuador.

The Panama hat, originally called Jipijapa or Montecristi changed its name when it became famous, and is now called Panama.
The name change came about after Roosevelt, then President of the United States, visited the construction of the Panama Canal in 1906. During his visit to the workers of the Canal, he had worn one of the famous Ecuadorian hats. This image, once captured, quickly went around the world and accelerated the success of this hat, which is now recognized throughout the world.

The straw “paja toquilla” is the braided leaf of the palm tree with which the Panama hat is made. This leaf comes from the Carludovica Palmata palm.

Paja toquilla is a delicate material, with which artisans also make baskets and other decorative elements. Our partner artisans use the best elements of paja toquilla straw to provide a high quality to our hats that resist in time with good care.

Maintenance

To be kept flat, avoid folding it over time, avoid moistening it. The maintenance is done with a soft cloth slightly moistened, then dried immediately. The straw must not remain wet.

We recommend not to use abrasive or household products to maintain your Tawa B’Art Panama hat, not to put it in water, or to do sports with it.

Sizing guide

Knowing your hat size is easy! Take a tape measure, or a string that you will measure afterwards, and measure your head circumference at the level of the temples without tightening too much (1cm above the ears and the eyebrows).

If you are 21,8 inches (55.5 cm) or 21,9 inches (55.8 cm) always round up to size “22 inches (or 56 cm)”.

Then indicate in the choice of sizes, the one you want to receive. Women have an average circumference of 56cm (22 inches) and men 58cm (22,8 inches).
